Jadyn Sawyer left Mount Laurel, New Jersey, on August 10 without suspecting that she wasn’t traveling alone.
For nearly 11 hours and 800 miles of highway to Athens, Georgia, a barely 10-week-old kitten was wedged into the felt lining beneath her car, clinging to life amid the roar of the engine and the asphalt. Only after arriving at the University of Georgia campus did Sawyer see something that made her blood run cold: a tiny paw dangling beneath the vehicle.
Mechanics at a Tires Plus shop had to dismantle part of the bodywork to get him out alive. They named him Jersey, in honor of the place he had stowed away from, and the Cat Zip Alliance organization took on the search for a home for him. Today he lives with Micki Wisenbaker and her cat Maggie, with a new name, Jack, and a survival story that no one in that car saw coming.
