A video uploaded to TikTok by user “Ju” to say goodbye to Sofi, her deceased friend, caused outrage online. The first images were what one would expect: the two of them hugging in front of a mirror, smiling, like any memory shared between friends.
But the clip did not end there. In the second photo, Ju appeared kissing Thiago, Sofi’s ex-boyfriend, while the text completed the sentence: “You left, but you left behind Thiago, your boyfriend… who is now mine, and we love each other because of you”
But that wasn’t the only thing Ju said she “got” after her friend died. She also wrote: “You left, but you left behind friends, who are now my friends, a family that is now my family…”. As if Sofi’s entire life now belonged to her.
That was when the real debate began. Users wondered whether the relationship between Ju and Thiago had started before Sofi’s death, something the original video did not clarify.
In response to the amount of criticism, Ju decided to respond and share her version of what happened. She explained that she had started a relationship with Thiago at the beginning of 2024, but they broke up at the beginning of 2025. Some time later, Sofi began talking to him and, only at the beginning of 2026, they started a relationship that only their close circle knew about.
Ju also assured that Sofi and Thiago had broken up about three weeks before her death. It was at the young woman’s wake that she ran into her ex again, although she maintains that at that point they remained only friends. They would only reconcile much later: “Two weeks ago, he asked me to be his girlfriend and I said yes”, she wrote.
In this way, Ju implicitly denied the version that many users had begun to construct on social media: according to her account, she did not “steal” her friend’s boyfriend or start a relationship with him immediately after her death. She also said that by the time Sofi began seeing Thiago, she had already moved on from him and had no problem with it.
“I didn’t know a video would cause such a stir”, she complained in response to the criticism. For Ju, if she had no problem when her friend began talking to her ex, she also doesn’t understand why people outside the situation are now questioning her relationship with Thiago. “Stop focusing on other people’s lives and get a life”, she concluded.
