🐐 The end of an era

Someday, many years from now, someone will ask what it was like to watch Cristiano Ronaldo play. And the numbers won’t be enough.

We’ll have to explain that there was once a man who refused to grow old, who declared war on the limits of the body and won it for twenty years. That he leaped and hung in the air for one second longer, as if gravity had to ask his permission.

How will we remember him?

Not only for the thousand goals or the five Ballon d’Or awards. We’ll remember him for what was behind it: obsession. The last to leave training. The one who turned the word “work” into another talent. The poor boy from Madeira who decided, against all odds, to be the best in the world, and he was.

The player says goodbye. But the era that is ending is not that of a footballer: it is that of a way of understanding ambition. He and Messi spoiled us with the impossible every weekend for almost two decades. From now on, everything we see will be, at best, very good.

We’ll remember him the way we remember those who expand what is possible. As living proof that limitless talent exists, but its name is discipline.

Thank you for the era, Cristiano. There will never be another like it. 🇵🇹
