VfL Wolfsburgo announced the return of a historic element of its crest after more than two decades of pressure from the fans. The simple and minimalist style took away the tradition of their crest.
The German club will bring back the “walls” above the classic “W”, a detail that was part of its identity for much of the 20th century and had disappeared in modern redesigns.
The decision coincides with the club’s 80th anniversary and was presented as a “historic and emotional moment” for the fans. Fan representatives even said they had spent more than 20 years officially asking for the return of that symbol because they consider it a central part of Wolfsburg culture.
The new crest has already been unveiled, although it will only appear on the jerseys starting in the 2027-28 season due to production issues. The reaction from its fans, however, was immediate.
