Zinedine Zidane’s children used another surname at school, but not because that surname could be a burden for the footballer in his future career, Lucas Zidane confessed.
It was neither a whim nor a game: his parents, Zinedine Zidane and Véronique Fernández, decided to enroll him under his mother’s surname so that he would go unnoticed among his classmates.
He himself told it with the naturalness of someone recalling a childhood different from everyone else’s. “At school, my parents gave us my mother’s surname, Fernández, to protect us a little”, he confessed.
The strategy did not last long. Sooner or later, everyone ended up discovering that this quiet boy was the son of the Frenchman who had made Real Madrid champions.
Today Luca no longer needs to hide anything: he has just been introduced as CD Leganés’ goalkeeper and carries his real surname with the same calmness with which he carried his mother’s as a child.
