The man was riding his motorcycle through Western Attica, Greece, when he suddenly slammed on the brakes.
There was nothing around him. The fire had passed through there days earlier and taken everything with it: the mountain, the trees, the houses. Ashes as far as the eye could see.
And in the middle of all that nothingness, a chapel dedicated to the Archangel Michael was still standing. Whole. Without a trace of smoke.
The trees surrounding it were still green, as if the fire had decided to go around it and keep moving. Inside, the religious icons were untouched. Even the oil in the lamps was still there, unburned.
The motorcyclist got off his bike and filmed everything with a trembling voice. He repeated a single word: miracle.
The video was uploaded in early August 2026 and surpassed two million views in 24 hours.
Meanwhile, the fire continued to be a real tragedy. It devastated Porto Germeno and other towns in the area, and two firefighters died when their helicopters collided while fighting the flames near Psatha.
In the midst of that pain, that green chapel in a world of ashes was the only thing the fire could not take away.
