Marie-Louise Eta was the first woman to manage a men’s team in one of Europe’s five major leagues, and she has just ended her spell as coach of FC Union Berlin with a 4-0 thrashing of FC Augsburg.

After a month in the role, she leaves with the objective accomplished: securing survival in Germany’s top division. A historic feat for the first woman in that position.

Although it was also marked by criticism and even sexist comments. Even so, she managed to change the team’s mood: she pulled Union Berlin out of a bad run and earned the first female victory in the history of the major men’s leagues.

The farewell was very emotional because Eta earned the respect of the squad and the fans. After this ending, she will remain linked to the club and will go on to manage Union Berlin’s women’s team.
