The World Cup is in jeopardy because of teachers’ protests: “Teachers first, then football. If there is no solution, the ball will not roll”

With 9 days to go before the opening match of the 2026 World Cup 🇲🇽, CNTE teachers knocked down the statues of footballers installed along Paseo de la Reforma. They marked them with a phrase that is already going viral: “If there is no solution, the ball will not roll” ✊.

The demand is specific: salary increases and changes to the pension system. Claudia Sheinbaum’s government opened dialogue tables, but the president warned that there was “a lot of provocation” in the Zócalo and that those who caused incidents were not teachers 👀.

The opening match is scheduled for June 11 at Estadio Ciudad de México. And the threat still stands: if there is no agreement, the boycott of the World Cup is real. Is the CNTE right, or are they harming the country? 🔥
