Forsberg searched every corner of the house for his friend and couldn’t understand why he no longer appeared.
For 15 years, he had shared the sofa, naps, and afternoons with a ginger cat who simply never came back one day: thyroid cancer took him, and this 10-year-old golden retriever was left with the confused look of someone waiting for someone who isn’t coming back. His owner, Jen Philion, watched him wander for days on end and knew he needed more than comfort.
That’s how a tiny black kitten arrived, with the defiant face of someone who has no idea what they’re getting into. Forsberg sniffed him, nudged him with his muzzle, and never let him go. Today, a year later, they sleep together, watch the snow fall through the same window, and are proof that love, when it leaves, sometimes returns in another form.
