Yawa Sumpa Puar Alexandra, from the Achuar indigenous community in Ecuador, was given the body of her deceased little one in an ordinary cardboard box, treating him as if he were just a disposable package.
This image is causing a sea of tears and a wave of anger demanding justice around the world. No family should suffer this humiliation.
The hospital staff told this woman that they did not have the necessary materials for the proper handover and that was why they were doing it in this box.
“We were not asking for luxuries, we were asking for respect. Treating a baby’s body as if it were merchandise is to not have an ounce of soul in your body”, said a close relative.
The incident, which is already being described as one of the greatest humiliations toward a grieving family, has led civil society to demand the immediate dismissal of those responsible.
