Johnson Thompson is 17 years old and couldn’t sleep. A week earlier, an accident involving a lawn mower had left him with a concussion, and in the early hours of June 30, 2026, he decided to go early to his parents’ workshop in Tuscumbia, Alabama.
It was 4:30 a.m. when he saw Fannie Garner, 76, crossing the street disoriented and in pain. The young man, who according to his own parents is shy and avoids drawing attention to himself, approached her, offered her a chair, and called 911 without letting go of her hand while help arrived. Doctors would later confirm that Fannie was suffering from a stroke.
