On October 29, 2013, a tragedy shocked the Netherlands when four technicians were carrying out maintenance on a wind turbine at the Piet de Wit park, in Ooltgensplaat.
Everything changed when a fire started in the machine room, trapping two young workers aged 19 and 21 more than 67 meters high. While two managed to escape, the others were left with no way out on the burning structure.
A photograph of the two embracing before dying went viral years later and ended up becoming one of the most disturbing images related to workplace accidents. Investigations pointed to a possible short circuit as the origin of the fire.
