Two men, without knowing each other, chose the same piece of cement on the Hollywood Walk of Fame to do the same thing: smash a star with a hammer. They did it years apart, each as a kind of personal protest, and each paid the consequences on his own.

When the second man was arrested, something happened that no one saw coming. The first, who had already served his own sentence some time earlier, came forward and quietly paid his bail. They did not know each other at all. There was no friendship behind it, nor any shared plan.

There was only that same stretch of sidewalk and an almost identical decision, made separately, that ended up entangling their fates in a way that not even they themselves could have foreseen.
