Shyam Lal Yadav, a 74-year-old farmer from Sagar, India, hit his head in 2014, and what started as swelling ended up turning into a real horn. 🫨 For five years, the protrusion kept growing on his skull.
At first he trimmed it at home with scissors. Later, when it had already become too much, he asked his barber for help. What neither of them knew was that they were dealing with a sebaceous horn: a keratin formation — the same protein as your nails and hair — that can appear after extreme sun exposure or radiation. Almost always benign, but disturbing in every case. ☀️
It was only in September 2019 that Dr. Gajbhiye and his team operated on him: two hours of surgery to remove something Shyam had carried attached to his head for half a decade. The operation was successful, although the patient will have to continue treatment to prevent it from growing back. 👨⚕️
