Nathaly Ramírez was 23 years old and holding her 8-month-old daughter when they both fell from the balcony of a 15th-floor apartment on Olinville Avenue in the Bronx.
It was shortly before 3:40 a.m. on Tuesday. Officers who responded to the 911 call took them in a patrol car to a nearby hospital. Nathaly was pronounced dead shortly after arriving. The little girl remained hospitalized in critical condition, although the latest report describes her as stable.

NYPD investigators believe the mother’s body may have protected the girl during the fall. This is a police theory, not a confirmed fact.
The following day, police identified 31-year-old Ángel Carrasco, Nathaly’s ex-boyfriend and the baby’s father, as a suspect. According to records, there were four domestic violence reports involving the two: in one, he was accused of slapping her and, days later, of breaking into her apartment looking for her. Security cameras show him inside and outside the building before and after the incident, and walking away when police arrived.

He was found Wednesday night, hiding at a friend’s house in the Bronx. He faces charges of murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, attempted manslaughter, and assault. He has yet to appear before a judge, and the investigation remains open.
