He rang that bell convinced he had won… and she let him believe it. 💔 Ghewan Arja filmed her 10-year-old son Omar ringing the hospital bell with all the strength he had left.
That sound, in the oncology hallways, means only one thing: the treatment is over and you won. Omar knew that. He smiled. What he didn’t know was that his mom had lied to him. 💔

The non-Hodgkin lymphoma he had been diagnosed with had no turning back. The doctors had already told Ghewan there was nothing more they could do, and they asked whether she planned to tell her son.

She said no. She preferred for Omar to go home believing he had defeated it, to ring that bell with pride, for his final days to be filled with victory and not waiting. That decision — lying to him out of love — went viral on TikTok and broke the hearts of millions. 🌿

What makes this story even harder to bear is that Omar was not the first. Ghewan had already gone through the same thing with Aisha, her 4-year-old daughter, in 2009, and years later with Mohammed, 9, who died from a brain tumor that appeared without warning.
This Australian mother knows pain in a way no parent should ever know. And even so, every time the camera turned on, she chose to protect her children until the end. 🤍
