The call came in at dawn on Sunday: a newborn having trouble breathing at a home in the Los Aromos area, in Lautaro, La Araucanía region. What the police officers didn’t know was that when they opened that door, they would find something no patrol protocol contemplates.

Upon entering, the officers saw that the baby had the umbilical cord wrapped around the body. Without hesitation, one of the officers cut it and began giving first aid until SAMU arrived to transfer the mother and the newborn to Lautaro Hospital. Both were out of danger. 🍼
What makes this story even more shocking: the woman didn’t know she was pregnant. She went into the bathroom because of severe abdominal pain, and minutes later she gave birth. A police officer who went out on patrol that night ended up being the first thing that baby saw upon entering the world.
