Three or four minutes. That’s how long it took Andrea Burdalo to hear her daughter Leyre crying from the other room. When she got to the bathroom, the 14-month-old baby already had burns on 60% of her body: everything except her hands, her feet, and part of her mouth. 😔

What followed were two months at the Virgen del Rocío Hospital in Seville, six operations, and two skin grafts. Leyre died on May 29. Andrea’s partner, who was not the girl’s biological father, said he had gone out to get a towel. “In a bathroom where everything is absolutely within reach”, the mother stressed. The doctors activated the abuse protocol when they saw the injuries.

Now the investigation points to a possible homicide. Andrea broke her silence with a phrase that says it all: “I want him to end up like my daughter or be locked up.”
