Oyuki Ramírez Burciaga, a 45-year-old judge in Zacatecas, Mexico, ran while protecting her three-year-old son as a swarm of bees covered her torso and arms. The mother wrapped him in her own sweater, hugging him tightly and putting him into a vehicle to shield him from a massive bee attack. The attack occurred at a sporting event in Guadalupe, Zacatecas. Firefighters managed to protect her and bring the boy to safety, and he was handed over to his relatives.

What followed was a nine-day battle at the General Hospital of Zacatecas. The stings caused anaphylactic shock. Her immune system released a cascade of chemicals that attacked her heart, lungs, and blood pressure until she had to be intubated. In total, eleven people were injured that day, including emergency personnel.

Ramírez had won the 2025 judicial elections after more than two decades within the Judiciary. She died without ever letting go of the idea of making it to her son.
