The cruise ship MV Hondius, which was sailing from Argentina to Cape Verde, remains stranded after three deaths and several cases of hantavirus were reported.

This virus, which is transmitted by inhaling particles contaminated with rodents’ urine, saliva, or droppings, is believed to have entered the vessel, possibly through rodents that boarded during port calls or through contaminated supplies.

Among the 149 people on board are 23 British citizens, and the company Oceanwide Expeditions is already considering sailing to the Canary Islands to receive medical attention.

Although the WHO says the risk to the public is low, the uncertainty is keeping passengers on edge.
