Machine Gun Kelly was the one who opened the door when he left pure rap behind to dive headfirst into pop-punk with *Tickets to My Downfall*, and from there, emo aesthetics began creeping into a genre that seemed immune to it. Drake also played with that more androgynous, experimental image without fully abandoning his roots.
Now that mix is being repeated by younger artists, to the point that it’s no longer clear where rap ends and emo begins. New era or just a passing trend? 🤔
