Children posing in front of a camera, families gathered together, and everyday moments from childhood come to life again decades later, when those same people recreate their original photographs with remarkable precision.
This is the work of Irina Werning, an Argentine photographer born in Buenos Aires and creator of the “Back to the Future” project. Her method is almost obsessive: she tracks down the original clothing, reconstructs the setting, calculates the light, and directs each person until achieving the exact pose from their childhood photograph.
What started as a personal project began to gain notoriety in 2010 and 2011, so compelling that in 2011 Werning received a $15,000 grant from Burn Magazine to continue the project. A year later, Disneyland Paris invited her to recreate photos of its first visitors for the park’s anniversary. 🎡📸
