He had been trapped in there for eleven hours.
A couple was coming home to Newbury, England, from a happy vacation in Dordogne, France. However, memories and pictures were not the only things they brought back from that trip.
When they got home, they decided to unload the car. A knocking suddenly started coming from inside. The couple thought a neighbor was playing a prank on them, until the woman said: “There’s someone in there”.
PThe police took about 30 minutes to arrive and warned them to stay back. They did not know what they might find inside. They slowly opened the trunk, and a foot appeared.
“I brought a stowaway back from France”, commented the car owner.
A young man had climbed into the vehicle, leaving several valuable belongings outside so he could get into the trunk. The owners believe it happened in Calais, where the car had been parked on the street overnight.
“He told us he was from Egypt”, they added.
He spent almost 11 hours in total silence; the return trip to the United Kingdom even included a ferry crossing. Even so, the desire for a new life was stronger for this young man. He said he came from “The Calais Jungle”, a highly dangerous migrant camp. Rumors of better opportunities in England were enough to make him undertake the dangerous journey.
It is not known exactly what will happen to him, because he was not carrying any documents, but the authorities will surely decide how to handle his case.
