Idris Elba said it himself, without anyone having to ask him twice. On the cover of British GQ (June 2026), the 53-year-old British actor put an end to more than a decade of speculation with a phrase no one expected: that certain international markets “aren’t into that” and that the public would not accept “a Black man, an African man” as Bond. 😶

For one side, Elba simply told the uncomfortable truth that Hollywood has spent years pretending does not exist. For the other, the fact that a Black actor is the one legitimizing that argument is exactly the problem. And the debate gets even more complicated because Elba also warned against turning 007 into something “woke” and asked that the character remain “pure escapism”. 🔥

Was Elba brave for naming structural racism, or did he do a favor for those who always said no? And is he right that Bond should not become politically correct? 👇
