The before-and-after photos circulating today show two versions of the same place: one with orderly rooftops and a calm river at its side, the other with water devouring every structure in its path.
Nepal is facing one of the worst episodes of monsoon rains in recent years this season, with rivers overflowing without warning in mountainous areas where evacuating in time is nearly impossible. Entire families lost in minutes what they had built over generations, and rescue teams continue working among the rubble to find those who are still missing.
