The morning of May 3 became a tragic date, when a fatal accident at Maliuyan Adventure Park sparked a wave of outrage in China.

This is because the videos that went viral clearly show the victim, a tourist identified as Liu, warning staff about the poor condition of the safety rope on the ‘waterfall swing’ before the ride began operating.

“Don’t get on, the rope is damaged!” “The rope is broken!”, were some of Liu’s last words.

But the employees ignored her screams and activated the mechanism anyway. Seconds later, the rope snapped and Liu fell into the void from a considerable height, suffering injuries so severe that not even the swift intervention of medical services could save her life.

Local authorities have temporarily closed the park and launched a thorough investigation to determine responsibility, and the results of the expert examinations are expected in the coming days, which could lead to severe legal consequences for the park’s operators, including prison sentences for negligent homicide.
