The Cortége de Chalmers stands out because it turns normal, every day objects into motorized vehicles that are as functional as they are absurd. Engineering students defy logic as they slap engines from trashcans and vacuum cleaners to toilets. These creations, known as “vagnar”, race through the streets of Göteborg, showing that any structure can roll with a little bit of ingeniuty.

Each vehicle is a unique piece of engineering that is built over ten days of intense work. The main rule is that the most creativity the better, allowing that pieces of furniture such as couches and beds glide like cars around the city. These inventions not only have to move, they also have to survive the trip while they pay homage to current events and world news.

This parade attracts over 250 thousand spectators each April 30th, becoming a massive tourist attraction in Sweden. The even reaches its highest zenith in Avenyn avenue, where audiences celebrate the audacity of these creators. It’s an event where humor and technique join hands to create the wackiest motorized show in the world.
