It all started as a joke on a podcast.
Owen Thiele told Hailey Bieber that her jeans looked bulky’, and she replied without thinking: “The rumors are true”. From there, they moved on to a topic the 28-year-old model often faces on social media: trolls who try to insult her by saying that “she looks trans”.
What followed was what made her trend. Hailey asked why anyone would think that was an insult, if some of the most beautiful people in the world are trans. She said it doesn’t offend her at all, and that she doesn’t understand why others think it should. In conclusion, she made it clear that she took it as a compliment.
The phrase went viral within hours. This isn’t the first time Hailey has defended the trans community: in 2023, she signed a letter asking Mark Zuckerberg to curb hate speech on Instagram and Facebook.
