A workplace argument in a butcher shop in Corral de Bustos, Córdoba, nearly ended in tragedy when a 46-year-old employee decided to take revenge on her coworker by poisoning the hot water for his mate with rat poison, an act that was recorded by the store’s security cameras and allowed police to arrest the suspect before the situation could escalate even further.
The victim, who did not notice any change in the taste or appearance of the drink, began to feel ill shortly after taking several sips and had to be rushed to a clinic, where doctors confirmed the presence of rat poison in his body and managed to stabilize him, while the accused woman was arrested and her home searched, where a substance consistent with rat poison was found.
The local prosecutor’s office ordered the woman’s preventive detention under the charge of “aggravated minor injuries in the attempted stage by poisoning”, but the results of the chemical tests could change the accusation to a more serious crime, while the owner of the butcher shop expressed his bewilderment and said that no incidents of violence had ever previously been recorded among the employees.
