Despite the officer’s attempts to calm him down and carry out a peaceful arrest, the man was hostile and refused to cooperate, which quickly escalated into a struggle.
During the confrontation, when the suspect began to resist and physically assault the officer, she drew her weapon. In the chaos of the moment, shots were fired and, tragically, one of them accidentally struck the suspect’s mother, who was at the scene. The officer, caught up in the struggle, did not initially realize that she had hit the woman, continuing with the procedure to subdue the suspect until backup finally arrived.
After the incident, Sean Kaiser was arrested and faced multiple charges, including resisting arrest, assault and battery of an aggravated nature against an officer, in addition to the initial theft charge.
