June arrived with two historic events at the same time: Pride Month 🌈 and the 2026 World Cup ⚽. And the internet, as always, found the connection.

As images of soccer players hugging, crying, and rolling around on the field flooded social media, a study backed by the University of Oxford appeared as if sent from heaven: kissing a close friend, on the cheek or on the lips, does not define anyone’s sexual orientation. It’s platonic affection, experts say, and men who express it freely have better mental health. Calendar coincidence or not, the timing was perfect. 😂

Is it just a celebratory hug, or has soccer spent decades normalizing something that generates controversy off the field? And do you think the context matters, or is a display of affection a display of affection no matter where it happens?
