Gekyume has a wallpaper showing something that never happened: him alongside his father.
The image was edited with Photoshop. There was no camera, no hug, and no shared moment to back it up, because Jahseh Onfroy, the rapper known as XXXTentacion, died seven months before his son was born.
On June 18, 2018, the artist was shot and killed. He was just 20 years old. At the time, his girlfriend, Jenesis Sanchez, was pregnant with their first child. Gekyume came into the world after his father was gone, which is why there isn’t a single real photograph of the two of them together. The only thing the boy has of that scene is a version pieced together with digital editing, the one he chose to look at every time he unlocks his phone. A fake image to fill a very real void.
