The idea was born as part of an initiative by Milton Lodge, a care home for older adults in Colchester, England, called “Sparkle”. The goal was to fulfill the residents’ wishes, but one request ended up surprising even the staff themselves: 89-year-old Joan Corp wanted some muscular men to come and serve them dinner.
What initially seemed like a joke became reality when 10 other residents joined the request. In total, 11 women between the ages of 82 and 99 took part in the unusual evening, for which the care home hired men from Hunks in Trunks, a British company specializing in this type of service.
The guests served a three-course dinner while the residents enjoyed the experience. Some flirted with them, others tried to remove their aprons, and there were massages as well. The women’s daughters and granddaughters were invited to take part in the evening.
99-year-old Doll Jenkins was especially delighted with the experience and asked the men to return to celebrate her 100th birthday.
Milton Lodge director Trui Snee defended the initiative with a simple phrase: “Life doesn’t stop just because you’re in a care home”. The unusual dinner took place in October 2018.
