In Bryne, a small town in Norway, there is a Chinese restaurant called Wen Hua House where Erling Haaland learned to walk between tables before he learned to kick a ball into the goal. Its owner, Hui Zhu Wang, has known him since he was a child.
Today Haaland weighs every gram of what he eats, trains like a machine, and plays for Manchester City. But when he goes back home, he walks into that same restaurant and orders the usual: sweet and sour chicken or duck. No exceptions, no diets in the way.
Wang says he is still humble, that he signs autographs for customers, and that he gave them two of his jerseys, now framed on the wall. The most expensive footballer in Europe still has the same appetite he had when he was ten years old.
