Sheila and Clay Fletcher were convicted in connection with their daughter Lacey’s death. She was 36 years old when she was found dead on January 3, 2022, in an armchair at the family home in Slaughter, Louisiana.
The autopsy attributed her death to sepsis linked to bone infections, severe malnutrition, and prolonged immobility. Prosecutor Sam D’Aquilla argued that her parents left her without food or care while traveling.
Both were sentenced for involuntary manslaughter: 40 years in prison each, with 20 years suspended and five years of supervised probation.
The ruling imposed criminal consequences on both, but it could not undo Lacey’s death at age 36.
