They were all crowded together, piled on top of one another, in a small room among tiny cages.
That’s how 48 animals were found at an alleged illegal breeding facility in San Juan de Miraflores, Lima. There were 25 French bulldogs, nine English bulldogs, eight mixed-breed dogs, five puppies, a dachshund, and even a rooster. According to the veterinary staff, most were malnourished, with skin problems, long or fungus-covered nails, and eye infections. A representative of Club Frenchies Perú, who came to help, said that some dogs were dirty, with bitten ears and broken nails. The English bulldogs also showed signs of heatstroke. They were also operated on to cut their vocal cords to silence them, keep them from barking, and thus hide the illegal business from the neighbors.

Today, things began to change: most of them are now in temporary homes approved by the municipal government, and the organization itself took in more than 20 French bulldogs. They still need examinations, medication, and specialized care, and permanent adoption will take place once the authorities determine it is appropriate. Two people were arrested, and the Prosecutor’s Office is investigating the case.
