Andie MacDowell is 65 and has stopped apologizing for it.

For years, Hollywood taught her that gray hair should be dyed and that the body should be hidden after a certain age. She did the opposite: she let her hair turn gray in front of the cameras and, when it came time to film a nude bathing scene for her series The Way Home, she did not call a body double. She went in herself, on a freezing night in Canada, into Lake Ontario. “I didn’t diet or anything”, she said. “You reach a point where you’re sick of thinking about those things”.

What is most moving is not the scene, but the calmness with which she talks about aging. She says that “old” is not a bad word, that wrinkles tell a beautiful story, and that at a certain age people should be admired, not pitied. At 65, MacDowell is not resigned. She is proud of every year that brought her here.
