Holding a Brazil jersey with his name and the number 27 on it, Lula, surrounded by champions, signed into law a change that players had been waiting decades for ⚽🇧🇷

The Brazilian president signed into law legislation promoting the professionalization of women’s football in the country. But it goes beyond the pitch: it also establishes measures for equal pay, maternity protection, and the prevention of discrimination and violence against women footballers 👏

“This is proof of a new space that women are claiming in Brazil”, Lula da Silva said during the event, with a ball in his hand and the national team players by his side.

And he went further with a phrase that is already making the rounds on social media: “There is no reason for women to be treated as inferior” 🗨️

In the country of “jogo bonito”, at last the law is beginning to play on the same team as them.
