Shakira arrived in Quibdó and didn’t bring cameras for the show. She brought a promise.

She walked among the rubble left by the 7.4-magnitude earthquake that shook Chocó on August 10, 2026, leaving at least 289 people dead. She visited the Carrasquilla Industrial Technological School alongside Governor Nubia Carolina Córdoba-Curi, and there, facing the shattered classrooms, she said what she planned to do: rebuild the Technological University of Chocó and build ten new schools alongside philanthropist Howard Buffett.

“There is no way to ease the pain of so many, there are no magic solutions”, she acknowledged, “but what there is, is a commitment to be here”. Her Pies Descalzos Foundation has been working in that land for 22 years and has already graduated 400 students. Now, with Global Citizen, Live Nation, and CAF contributing funds, she is working to ensure that no child from Chocó stops dreaming of a future.
