Sam Neill announced in April 2026 that he was cancer-free, after three years battling a rare lymphoma.
The 78-year-old New Zealand actor appeared to have won that battle. But on Monday, July 13, his family confirmed that he died suddenly and unexpectedly in Sydney, Australia.
For millions, he will always be Dr. Alan Grant, the paleontologist who ran among dinosaurs in Jurassic Park.
But he was also the man from ‘The Piano,’ ‘Peaky Blinders,’ and a farm in New Zealand where he gave his animals celebrity names. He is survived by four children, and leaders of two countries, New Zealand and Australia, publicly paid tribute to him.

The Jurassic Park hero, who battled severe insecurities and a serious illness in his later years, left us an eternal testament to self-love:
🗣️ “There is only one you… accepting yourself exactly as you are could be the greatest gift you ever give yourself”.

😭✨ An absolute truth that invites us to stop fighting with the mirror.
How much has it cost you to accept yourself as you are? 🕊️
