These dogs survived human cruelty and now teach about kindness and resilience

Zoe had the lower parts of all four legs cut off in Egypt. Other humans took Elliot’s legs from him. Eddie was left lying in the street with an injured spine.

Nobody wanted them when they needed help most. Today, they’re part of The Unstoppable Dogs, a group of more than a dozen dogs with disabilities cared for by Debbie Pearl in Huntington Beach, California. Wearing prostheses or riding in wheelchairs, they visit hospitals, nursing homes, and schools, and provide animal-assisted therapy, where care and compassion are at the heart of everything.

Pearl told CBS that she looks for dogs who have been through trauma but kept their gift for forgiveness. That resilience is what inspires those who pet them.

The people who visit them receive a lesson no speech can teach: being different doesn’t mean being less. And it’s taught by dogs someone tried to destroy.

How do you explain that the one who suffered the most harm is the one who gives out the most kindness and love?
