Gabriel was found alive. He was inside a tied plastic bag in a dumpster near an apartment complex on Dashwood Drive, southwest of Houston; he still had his umbilical cord and was wet. A neighbor heard the baby crying inside the dumpster and didn’t hesitate to call the authorities.

Houston Police received the report on Sunday, July 21, at around 1:15 p.m. Authorities took him out of the bag and brought him to Texas Children’s Hospital for an evaluation. Hours later, Gabriel was found to be in good health and was placed in the care of Child Protective Services.

Everilda Cux-Ajtzalam, the 18-year-old mother, is accused of putting her son in the bag and leaving him there. The Harris County district secretary confirmed a bond of 90.000 dollars. She is currently serving a 7-year sentence.
