Emma Wren is not an ordinary newborn: she had been waiting to be born for more than two decades. This “snow baby” was frozen as an embryo in October 1992 and woke up 24 years later to arrive in the arms of her parents, Tina and Benjamin Gibson.
A unique mathematical coincidence occurred: at the time of the procedure, the mother was 25 years old, just one year older than the time her daughter had been frozen. Tina even joked that, under other circumstances, they could have been best friends instead of mother and daughter.
Although they do not share genetics, Benjamin says that the love was instant when he saw her. This case from the National Embryo Donation Center set a historic record and showed that life can be put on pause to bloom many years later. What do you think about freezing embryos for so long?
