The son of a father identified on X as @eohiggins didn’t draw a big house, money, or toys. He drew a rectangular blanket and three smiling faces beneath it: his own, his mom’s, and his dad’s. Nothing else. When his father shared the image in November 2021, thousands of people shared it over and over, because everyone understood the same thing without anyone explaining it.
For a child, security doesn’t take the form of property or a bank account. It takes the form of two people who are there when you close your eyes. Sometimes all it takes is a crayon and a sheet of paper to say what it takes adults years of therapy to understand.
