Kenya Glasgow was 31 years old and was walking toward the door of a house in Margate, Florida, alongside her 2-year-old daughter.
It was Sunday, almost 2:30 in the afternoon, and the family was arriving for dinner in the middle of a storm. Lightning struck them directly. A few meters away were Kameron Glasgow, her husband, and the girl’s twin sister, Kensli, who remained inside the car. Neither of them was injured. Kenya and her daughter Kennedi Rose were taken to different hospitals, where they died shortly afterward despite attempts to resuscitate them.
A neighbor who witnessed the scene remembers only a flash of light and then the two bodies on the sidewalk. Kameron spoke through tears in front of the cameras: in November, they would have celebrated four years of marriage. According to the CDC, the probability of dying from a lightning strike in a given year is less than 1 in a million. This family got that number.
