“She looked me up and down and said: ‘Wow, why are you so dressed up for work? You’ll only be sweeping the floor…'”, Paulina said. She replied with great wisdom and patience.

Even in the 21st century there are still people who keep criticizing other people’s appearance, believing they have the right to comment on others’ bodies and clothing. That is what happened to a Brazilian girl named Paulina Carvalho, who works as a street sweeper in the city of Porto Velho.

A woman criticized her for being “too dressed up” just to sweep the streets. “She looked me up and down and said to me: ‘Wow, why are you so dressed up for work? You’ll only be sweeping the floor and your face will be so full of dirt that you won’t even be able to tell the dust on your face apart“, Paulina wrote on her social media.

Her response was a lesson in humility and simplicity, showing that she not only cares about being well presented, but also about her inner self.

She is a fan of makeup; like anyone else in the world, she also likes to look good, pretty, and well presented.

For the woman who criticized her, apparently that is not right, because she is a “simple street sweeper”.

But the misguided opinion only brought out Paulina’s greatness. She responded with broad-mindedness, humility, and a lesson in good manners.

“My dear lady, the fact that I work wearing earrings, makeup, and smelling nice does not define my profession. What matters to me is that I am fair in life and not a bad person who goes around worrying about someone else’s life”.

the young woman replied.

Your profession does not define you. Although in many jobs the dress code is important, in life itself that is a matter of personal choice.

“My upbringing is humble; it comes from birth. I could have treated her the same way. But because of her age, I respected her. We offer what we have. I offered her my kindness”.

wrote the humble street sweeper.

The young woman does noble work, but her wisdom will probably take her very far in this life.

If she now had the patience to respond in a humble and respectful way, imagine what she would do in a higher position.

Appearances are not subject to criticism or judgment.

We all have the right to dress however we please, to wear makeup or not get dressed up. Respect is the most important thing, along with our values.
