For 15 years, a group of volunteers transformed a dump at Peru’s National Agrarian University La Molina into a shelter for abandoned dogs. They installed flooring, fencing, and kennels. They secured more than 100 responsible adoptions. They never charged a sol for it.
This week, the university demolished that space. Without prior notice, according to Huellas Molineras, the collective that built it. The institution says there was an agreement to relocate the dogs within two months, but the volunteers deny it and have already requested the minutes of that alleged meeting. Meanwhile, no one has explained what will happen to the food, medicines, or the dogs left without shelter.
The complaint went viral when a university official, in response to questions from a representative of the collective, said: “Please don’t put on a show for me”. The phrase outraged students and social media users, who now demand that UNALM account for a decision that erased 15 years of volunteer work overnight.
