She thought she would go into the hospital, meet her daughter and return home… but that didn’t happen.
Estefani Soto was 33 years old when she was admitted to Hospital Santa Rosa, in Peru, for a scheduled C-section and tubal ligation. According to her account, the pregnancy had progressed without complications and, after the procedure, her husband was even told that everything had gone well. Hours later, she began to feel ill.
The situation worsened rapidly. Her family says that she lost consciousness during a video call with her children and ended up in intensive care. Within about a month, she underwent five operations to control sepsis. Her lawyers maintain that injuries to the bladder and intestine occurred during the C-section and were not detected in time.
In the final surgery, her uterus, fallopian tubes and ovaries were removed. Estefani also says that she was left with complications affecting her mobility and had to begin treatment for medically induced menopause. The family alleges medical negligence, while the hospital has stated that the patient had a history of severe adhesive syndrome.
