Mingo Graham, from Alaska, was traveling at 176 kilometers per hour when his motorcycle crashed into a pole. He woke up months later, after being in a coma, at a Stanford hospital. He had broken bones in his neck and had been left paralyzed from the waist down.

He spent eight months hospitalized rebuilding not only his body, but also the idea of what to do with his life. The answer came from an unexpected place: Lego sets. With only two fingers and help from his mouth, he began assembling complex pieces, piece by piece, until he completed an exact replica of the Harley-Davidson he was riding on the day of the accident.

“They give me motivation when I don’t have it”, Graham says about his creations. He admits that peace took time to arrive, but today people are surprised by his attitude. Sometimes recovery is not measured in steps, but in pieces that fit together one after another.
