Dr. Fernando Mönckeberg Barros received an emotional tribute this Tuesday, just days before turning one hundred, for changing the history of public health in Chile.

The renowned doctor managed to eradicate malnutrition in the country thanks to the creation of the famous “Purita milk”, a key formula that saved thousands of children in the middle of the last century, when infant mortality was extremely high.

“The great challenge has become the fight against obesity”, experts warned after the ceremony.
Paradoxically, malnutrition fell to one percent, but today the danger is overweight due to the high rates recorded in the OECD.
